Year In Review - 2018

As I sit here at the end of my first pot of coffee of 2019, it seems like as good of a time as any to reflect on the 2018 that was. As I looked through my records at all the concerts I shot through the year, I was amazed at just how many great bands there were. I got the opportunity to shoot some absolute legends this year, but I also discovered a lot of new (well, to me anyway) bands.

I would be remiss if I didn’t start off by mentioning how utterly cool it was to be in the pit for Radiohead. Alabama (one of the last shows with the original three together), Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, Blues Traveler, LIVE, my second time shooting Counting Crows, David Byrne, Kansas, Dave Matthews Band, Dropkick Murphys, Drive By Truckers, Indigo Girls, Nightwish – I could just keep going.

In addition to shoots, I started writing more this year, as well, which lead to interviewing John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants and Ed Kowalczyk of LIVE. If you know anything about me, you know my teenage self is still geeked out. I also got to cover the “Big Bourbon Toast” event celebrating the release of New Riff bourbon for the River City News – which, of course, meant I got to sample the bourbon. I really am quite lucky.
